Two preschool teachers in Dearborn, Michigan punished a student by taping his mouth shut during lunch. The abuse occurred ten times at Great Start Readiness at Cherry Hill Baptist Church in March.
Abdul Dannoui, 5, described the disturbing abuse to ABC News 7 and said the teachers would laugh at him during lunchtime. They refused to give him lunch and taped his mouth shut plus told him to throw his food in the garbage. He recalled that his teachers told him not to tell his parents.
“They said don’t tell your mom or dad, or no one,”
His mother, Hoda, explained that Abdul has asthma and she was extremely heartbroken by the teacher’s actions:
“I’m emotionally heartbroken. Disappointed. That’s his second home. That’s how they treat a child with asthma? I am not afraid, I am going to fight for my kid.”

The family’s attorney, Nabih Ayad, believes the teachers saw the abuse as a prank:
“We feel that it was just a joke amongst these teachers, a laugh for them,”
“It’s outrageous. It’s absurd that you think you send your kid to a place or school, where he would be safe.

According to Ayad, one of the teachers was discharged but the other teacher is still there. The school district released a statement condemning the teacher’s behavior and reported that a substitute teacher assistant placed the tape over his mouth.
The teacher reported the incident to school administration which led to the removal of the substitute. Abdul’s parents removed him from the school district and are in process of enrolling him in a new school.
