While no one noticed; a 3-year-old boy slipped underwater for nearly 3 minutes; and was later pulled to the surface after a 9-year-old boy made the discovery; alerting adults.
Consequently; after 9-year-old Colbi Heard saw him struggling; the unconscious and motionless body of the toddler was carried away to safety; and given CPR by Colbi’s mother, Severia Heard, who, luckily, was a nurse.
“I haven’t necessarily practiced on a 2- or 3-year-old, but I have done CPR on the elderly. So I was scared, I was scared I was hurting him, but at the same time I kept repeating ‘Please baby, don’t die on me.”
“The [boy’s] family kept asking me ‘how long was he under?’ and I told them I didn’t know. But when I asked who found him, they all told me it was Colbi. He doesn’t get as much praise as he should. He’s been known to be a troubled young man, but I’m telling him he is an awesome kid no matter what anyone tells him.”
Meanwhile; Colbi has a message for all:
“Take care of people you don’t know. You should just help them even though you don’t know them. Anyone can be a hero.”
Consequently; the incident was caught on security camera at the Lakes at San Marcos apartment complex pool in Tallahassee, Florida.
Upon paramedics arrival, they rushed the toddler to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare emergency room, where he is found to be in stable condition.
Furthermore; officials stated the toddler’s mother, Keyonna Shaw, left him in the care of family members, just moments prior to the near-fatal incident.
Reportedly; children aged 1 to 4 are more likely to drown and will lose consciousness after being underwater for 2 minutes or more.
Consequently; brain damage will occur after being submerged from 4 to 6 minutes.
