Reportedly, the father, who has been identified as Justin Campbell, 37, died from a gunshot wound to the head in his home in Glen Carbon, Illinois. His ex-wife, whose name was Cristy Campbell, 32, committed suicide and was pronounced dead at Silver Lake in Highland, Illinois, the same day after her body was recovered from the lake 400 feet from her partially submerged vehicle. The preliminary cause of her death was environmental exposure and drowning.
According to reports, the fire was first reported 15 minutes before the SUV was seen driving into the lake. The couple’s infant son, 3-month-old Julian Campbell, was rescued from the submerged SUV by paramedic Todd Zobrist, who performed CPR, and the Campbells’ other five children (who are pictured above), who survived the house fire.
However, back in 2005, Justin was charged with domestic abuse against Cristy, for allegedly slapping her in the head when she was pregnant. He was then sentenced in March 2006 to probation and fined $500. The couple married on Nov. 3, 2006, but Cristy filed for legal separation in September of 2010.
After the abuse continued, in April 2012, Cristy Campbell filed an emergency protection order against her husband and filed for divorce, claiming in court papers that he “abuses me on a weekly basis,” after allegedly punching and choking her.
In the order, she expressed, “He has told me that I’m a no good wife.” The divorce was then granted in February 2013.
There is no word yet on if this was another domestic violence case between the couple that just went wrong, or who even killed Justin.
The funeral arrangements for both Justin and Cristy Campbell are pending, but our hearts and prayers go out to the young children as they have lost both of their parents.
