An extremely important laptop containing top secret service information tied to President Trump’s campaign was stolen out of a Secret Service car yesterday.
The laptop, which contained information about floor plans for Trump Tower, information about the Hillary Clinton email investigation, and other national security information, was stolen from the agent’s vehicle in Brooklyn, according to police.
Along with the stolen laptop, thieves made off with the laptop bag containing a Secret Service logo, but that was later recovered, along with “sensitive” documents and the agent’s access keycard.
It’s reported that the thief, who is suspected to have taken an Uber, found the car in the home driveway of the service agent.
There is video footage of the suspect walking away from the scene with a backpack, which could be holding the stolen computer.
The agent also told investigators that while nothing about the White House or foreign leaders is stored on the laptop, the information on there could compromise national security.
“The U.S. Secret Service can confirm that an employee was the victim of a criminal act in which our Agency issued laptop computer was stolen,” the agency said, before noting the multiple levels of security and encryption in its laptops, as well as their lack of classified information.
“An investigation is ongoing and the Secret Service is withholding additional comment until the facts are gathered,” the agency said. “The Secret Service requests anyone with information regarding this crime to please contact the New York Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service New York Field Office.”
The agency is also looking into the two agents responsible for protecting Donald Trump, after reports that they were caught taking selfies surfaced.
“Upon return to Manhattan, he shared the experience with his mother, Vanessa Trump, who relayed her concerns to his father, Donald Trump Jr.,” Mother Jones’ story said. “The issue was quickly escalated to top management of the Secret Service. The two agents were ordered to report to the Secret Service Office of Professional Responsibility in Washington, DC.”
“The Secret Service is very heavily involved and, citing national security, there’s very little we have on our side,” a police source said. “It’s a very big deal.”
“There’s data on there that’s highly sensitive,” the police source added. “They’re scrambling like mad.”
