Hollywood Unlocked caught up with Adrienne Bailon Houghton and husband Israel Houghton as they gave back to women in need at their Besos Care Packages drive in Downtown LA. This Saturday (March 11), in honor of Women’s Month and Day, Besos Care Packages teamed up with The Salvation Army to build and deliver over 900 care packages for women in Skid Row and surrounding areas.
Founded by the Houghtons, Besos Care Packages is a direct service project that aims to meet the basic human needs of our neighbors struggling in Skid Row, Los Angeles. At their second drive, dozens of neighbors, volunteers, staff, and even The Real co-host Jeannie Mai met to contribute and assemble the 900+ packages to distribute to the Women’s Center in DTLA, and afterwards to those on Sixth and San Julian streets, the core of Skid Row.
Included in the packages, built by Adrienne and volunteers, were some of the daily products we may take for granted, including toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, socks, and more. Accompanying the products were a few heartfelt notes, written by Jeannie Mai and some of the younger volunteers, to inspire and remind its recipients that they are not forgotten.
