After 10 Years, Mel B Files For Divorce From Husband Stephen Belafonte

A relationship that has been scrutinized in the public eye is now coming to an end after a decade spent in a tremulous marriage.

Former Spice Girl and current Americas Got Talent judge Mel B has filed papers to divorce her husband Stephen Belafonte, citing irreconcilable differences.

Back in 2014, rumors began to circulate that the couple was experiencing some internal issues of violence when Belafonte was accused of physically abusing Mel after she appeared on The X Factor UK with bruises and scratches on her face and arms, along with having to be rushed to hospital with stomach pains.

Following that, Mel, of course, denied the allegations of domestic violence stating,

“I’m very good was very polly but much better now, and for the record my hubby never would lay a hand on me sorry took so long but any response fuels rumors #lovemyfamily #lovemyfans.”

One issue, however, did seem strange after Belafonte’s bother urged the singer to leave his older brother saying, “I know Steve, he’s cold, he’s hard and he’s violent, Mel should look after her inner health and that will never happen around Steve. She should get help. He will destroy her.”

That’s not the only occasion where Mel’s safety was a topic of concern. Back in 2003, Belafonte was accused of battering his common-law wife Nicole during a drunken row at their home.

He also admitted to killing a mallard with a brick outside his house in the state of New Jersey back in 2007, where he later made a statement saying, “Oh, yes, apparently I killed a duck. But I haven’t. Sure I got into fights and I did get drunk but I learned from it and I don’t do it now.”

In the documents that were filed, Mel is asking for joint custody of their only child together, Madison Belafonte. As for Stephen, He is asking the court to terminate his spousal support.
