Authorities in Southern California are seeking the help of residents in hopes someone will recognize a woman who was captured on camera abandoning her 2-year-old daughter at an area grocery store.
The Riverside police department released footage taken from a surveillance camera inside a Food 4 Less grocery store, where a woman is seen entering with her 2-year-old daughter. While the woman is shopping, it appears that she is unaware that the toddler has wandered off. According to the police, the mother did not seem to be concerned about the child’s whereabouts. In fact, she continued to shop. The police also stated that a good samaritan brought the child to her and the mother responded, “Oh, just leave her.” Once the mother paid for her groceries, she left the store, leaving the daughter behind.
“It appears the toddler was intentionally left in the store by the mother. The small child was able to identify the woman as her “mommy” when she was shown a photo from the surveillance footage,” the statement said.
The toddler has since been placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.
