A South Carolina man has been charged with child abuse.
According to Dailymail, 23-year-old Ricardo Perez Salas was accused of shoving his fingers down his 5-month-old daughter’s mouth to stop her from crying, causing severe trauma.
The injuries were so severe, the child had emergency surgery on June 13, and remains on a ventilator. Thankfully, she is expected to recover.
Reportedly, Salas was already prohibited from contacting his child under the social service’s orders. He is currently being held without bail under an immigration detainer by federal authorities.
The alleged incident took place between June 10 and June 11, according to arrest warrants reported by WSPA.
The child’s mother, 20-year-old Celeste Paulina Marroquin, has also been arrested due to failure of reporting the abuse. Bail for Marroquin is set at $20,000.
