Gambino has dethroned Drake.
While viciously speaking on racism and gun violence in the land of the free, Childish Gambino‘s “This Is America,” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100, halting Drake‘s 15-week run; consequently dethroning “Nice For What,” which ruled for its first four weeks, and eleven consecutive weeks prior with “God’s Plan.”
Gambino’s new single launches as the most-streamed and top-selling song of the week and also arrives atop the streaming songs and digital song sales charts, per Billboard.
As a result of the accompanying buzzing and socially-conscious visual, the track gave Gambino his first Hot 100 No. 1 and first track to break into the Top 10; his previous high was “Redbone” at No. 12 last August.
Additionally, the viral video for the song, directed by Hiro Murai, features a cameo by SZA, while the track features background vocals from Young Thug, 21 Savage, Quavo, Rae Sremmurd‘s Slim Jxmmi and BlocBoy JB.
Also, prior to the visual’s debut, Gambino premiered the audio on May 5’s episode of ‘Saturday Night Live,’ which he also hosted as Donald Glover.
In addition, he debuted a second song entitled “Saturday,” check it out below.
