Ten members of a Bronx-based gang have been arrested for drug trafficking after the DEA seized a shipment of $22 million worth of weed being shipped from California to NYC.
According to NBC New York, the gang was caught attempting to allegedly ship thousands of pounds of marijuana valued at $22 million from the West Coast to the East Coast.
The marijuana weighed over 6,600 pounds and was allegedly being sent from California to homes and businesses in Manhattan, the Bronx, and New Rochelle, before being transferred to stash houses for distribution to customers and dealers.
According to prosecutors, the DEA, IRS, U.S. Homeland Security and the NYPD all worked together to make the arrests and execute a dozen search warrants on Wednesday and Thursday. It’s reported that during the searches, three handguns, a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition, cocaine, pounds of marijuana, and thousands of dollars in cash were seized by agents.
“Yesterday’s arrests were part of ‘Operation Green Giant,’ a Strike Force investigation targeting an organization allegedly reaping millions off the sale of marijuana in New York City,” said DEA Special Agent in Charge James J. Hunt.
The 10 gang members arrested face life in prison if convicted of federal drug charges.
