“I mean, my reputation is destroyed, my business is destroyed. It’s just something I shouldn’t have done. It was a stupid, harmless act that destroyed my life.”

Spingler left his position a year ago before the sexual assault happened. He confirmed that he cared for his mother in law for eight years as her dementia stops worsened. He was unable to care for her without assistance.

His mother in law was still able to identify Spingler despite her condition. He said she was able to until her 103rd birthday on December 8th of last year. AS her condition worsened and couldn’t identify Spingler. He decided to fondle her breasts to put her into shock.

“I thought for shock value, you know, I could get her to say something, let her know I was there. I touched her breast. It was the dumbest thing I ever did, but I did it to get her attention and let her know that I was there”

Spingler’s reasoning was to get his mother in law to recognize him but authorities say otherwise. Police Chief Colarulo told the court that Spingler’s justification for his actions were not true.

“When I see her, I’ll kiss her on the mouth, I’ll rub her breasts to make her feel good about herself. Sometimes she says ‘no,’ but that’s all it is and that’s all there is to it.’”

Spingler’s sentencing date was originally scheduled for September 28 but it has been postponed for a evaluation by the Sexual Offenders Assessment Board.
