Five People Are Reported Dead And Dozens Injured During The Charlottesville Riots

So far, it has been reported that five people have been killed during the Charlottesville riots. One of the victims was run over by a vehicle while protesting earlier today.

The vehicle ran over 20 people in total. A 32-year-old woman was killed by the vehicle while crossing the street and 19 other people were sent to the hospital. The suspect in question plowed the vehicle into counter protesters. So far, police did not report the name of the driver.

Update: suspect has been identified as 20-year-old James Alex Fields of Maumee, Ohio. He has been charged with second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and failure to stop an accident that resulted in death.

Two other people have died, according to Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, due to a helicopter crash near the area of the protests. 15 other people have been reported injured near the rally site. Two state troopers were killed inside of the helicopter. They were identified as Lt. H. Jay Cullen, 48, and Trooper Berke M.M. Bates.

McAuliffe had a few choice words for the white supremacists at the riots:

“Go home..You are not wanted in this great commonwealth. Shame on you”
