Social media went off on Gilbert Arenas after he took to his Instagram to ask, “Can you name a beautiful black woman on the outside? Not brown skin … like Tyrese black.”
The former NBA All-Star commented on an Instagram account called “Problkthought,” which posted a picture reading, “Dear Black Girl, You don’t have to be mixed to be beautiful,” with the caption, “Your African features are all you need for attractiveness. Never tell yourself or let anyone tell you that in order to be attractive you must be mixed.”
Arenas had the nerve to say Lupita Nyong’o is “cute when the lights are off.”
Although Arenas later apologized to “all shades of Black women,” Twitter and IG were already done with him.
In his apology, Arenas said:
“I thought I was saying if you’re mixed you’re not considered black and beautiful and my kids are dark skinned so I perceived it how I wanted to. I was trying to defend all shades of black but that’s what the post was also doing.”
“As for Lupita she ain’t cute to me sorry … just like I’m not cute to 95% of you.”
#Socialites, what do you think about his “apology?”
