When James Bond series author Anthony Horowitz called Idris Elba “too street” for the role of 007 in an interview with the Daily Mail, the e-response was swift, disgusted by the apparent racial undertones. Horowitz quickly issued a rather predictable apology, adding that he was “mortified” to have caused such widespread offense.
Horowitz’s original comment:
“For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too “street” for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.”
Horowitz after the backlash:
While my response who have probably included some serious questions about Horowitz’s ‘agology’, Idris is one to take the high road. The actor (whom we think would make and AMAZING James Bond) chose instead to simply keep it professional and inspirational:
Good for you Idris!
