High School Football Player Dies At Practice After Doing Drills Made For Navy Seals

Joshua Mileto, 16, was taking part in a preseason exercise camp with the Sachem High school Thursday (August 10). There, him and his teammates were performing a drill used by the U.S. Navy SEALs for conditioning, when suddenly, the log that he and his teammates were carrying fatally struck him in the head.

The 5ft 6in–134lb wide receiver and defensive back was pronounced dead later on at a hospital.

Suffolk cops came to the conclusion that it was just a tragic accident after interviewing the 16 coaches and trainers who were present during the practice, according to Daily Mail.

The Superintendent of Schools for the Sachem Central School District, Kenneth Graham, cancelled the rest of the school’s activities across the district for the day and provided counselors for students.

“The district is devastated by this horrific accident and words cannot express the grief we feel as a school community,” he said. “We extend our deepest condolences to the student’s family and friends during this terribly difficult time,” Daily Mail quotes.

Suffolk Homicide Squad detectives are investigating Mileto’s death and
trying to figure out whether the drill was appropriate at the high school level.
