Legendary New York City columnist, novelist, biographer, and award winning Pulitzer Prize recipient, Jimmy Breslin, has passed away today (Sunday, March 19th) at his home in Manhattan. Breslin’s wife, Ronnie Eldridge, confirmed his passing. His health appeared to be improving after being diagnosed with pneumonia, according to his stepdaughter Emily Eldridge. However, the cause of death was from complications from pneumonia.

The well-known columnist was working for the Daily News when he won a Pulitzer in 1986 for commentary. As word of his passing began to circulate throughout social media, many have taken to Twitter to offer their condolences as well as their admiration for a man who was much more than just a New York City columnist.
