It’s been almost a year since Jared Fogle, the disgraced former Subway spokesman, was nearly beaten to death in the Colorado prison he’s serving his 15 year sentence in. Now, the man responsible for the attack that left the 38-year-old with a bloody nose, scratched neck, and swollen face is speaking up. 61-year-old Steve Nigg says via a letter sent to his nephew, Jimmy Nigg Jr., he attacked Fogle for acting like a ‘big shot” since his November arrival. In the Colorado prison, Fogle was disgustingly celebrated like a God by other pedophile inmates.
In the letter, Nigg states, “Jared is their hero. You would not believe how arrogant Jared was. He hired bodyguards and the other child molesters looked at him as if he was a God.” Nigg’s nephew says, “Jared’s lucky he’s still alive. My uncle was in a position to kill him [and] no one was there.” However, he adds, “He got him down, then walked away. He’s not a violent guy, he doesn’t have a violent history. He’s sending a message is what he’s doing.”
Following the attack, Nigg was transferred to an Oklahoma prison and says he’s since “lost good times (time off his sentence) and spent many months in the hole, plus the loss of commissary and email.” However, he adds, “I have no regrets.” Nigg is scheduled for a 2024 release from prison and Fogle possibly has his earliest release date of July 11, 2029 – a month just before his 52nd birthday.
