If you were paying attention to Mac Miller’s last proper album, Watching Movies With The Sound Off, you’ll know that it was a pretty solid 2013 effort. The dark record provided a candid glimpse into the mind of a twenty-something MC who’d been written off as a “frat rapper” by everyone who has never set foot on a college campus.
In the midst of a battle with depression, he moved from L.A. to New York and found some time to record his third album, GO:OD AM, which you can listen to in full below, courtesy of NPR. The LP marks another turn in the Pittsburgh rapper’s career, which he admits is for the better. “[2014 mixtape] Faces was, in short, super depressing, and I’m not as depressed anymore, ” Mac told Billboard recently. “Making music when you’re depressed is great therapy, but I wanted this album to be in a different headspace.”
GO:OD AM drops September 18 via Warner and is available for pre-order on iTunes.
