Temple University Student Shot And Killed By Police After Wild Car Crashes On South Beach

A Temple University student was shot and killed by police in Miami Beach, Florida over the weekend after allegedly striking and running over a police officer with a vehicle.

The incident happened on Sunday around 6:15 p.m. 22-year-old Cariann Denise Hithon got behind the wheel of her BMW and struck two or three vehicles as she drove from Ocean Drive to Washington Avenue on 12th Street. She was confronted by police officers near the area who surrounded her car. That’s when things got terribly worse.

In a video taken by onlookers, Hithon can be seen at a halt, talking to a male passenger in the car. Unexpectedly, she attempts to flee the scene, knocking over a police officer.

The male passengers jump out of the car as Hithon proceeds to escape. Another cop that happened to be at the side of her car then opened fire on Hithon.

She was later taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The officer who was struck only had minor injuries and has been released from the hospital.

Hithon was visiting Miami to celebrate her birthday. According to her father, “She was going to be the attorney to save the world. Everybody that knew her knew she had a great future.” With that being said, this tragic incident comes as even more of a surprise.

Police are currently investigating the incident.
