This Florida native was determined to follow his own dreams after an old boss told him that he would never make it in the fashion industry. Now he sells his own designs from a kiosk next to his former job.

Peter Jean-Marie worked at a retail store in Naples to start life after graduating from college. He was introduced to the fashion industry at 16 and dreamed to build a global brand. After five months of working in retail, Jean-Marie planned to open his own fashion line since he knew he was destined for something bigger than working in sales. However, Jean-Marie’s former manager told the designer that he was not capable of starting his own business and needed to stick with his day job.

“He said ‘look Peter, you’re not a designer. In order for you to be a designer, you have to selling your clothes within our store.'”

A year after leaving his retail position, the ambitious 23-year-old opened his own kiosk at the Coastland Center mall and sells his own custom made ties.  The hardest thing Jean-Marie said about opening his own fashion line was starting from scratch. Despite the obstacles, Jean-Marie is maintaining a positive attitude and hopes to be known worldwide as told to NBC-2.

“Somehow, I’m gonna get there.”
