Police in Mexico have arrested the wife of drug lord Nemesio Oseguera, who is blamed for the U.S. heroin epidemic.
Oseguera, known as “El Mencho” is one of America’s most wanted drug lords due to his heavy heroin shipments to the United States and string of bloody executions. His wife, Rosalinda Garcia was detained in the Guadalajara suburb of Zapopon in the Western state of Jalisco, according to what three security officials told Reuters on condition of anonymity. The officials refused to provide any further details on the arrest due to El Mencho’s power in the country.
Oseguera runs the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and became Mexico’s most wanted drug lord following the takedown of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. While El Chapo was extradited to the United States last year to face trial, El Mencho was able to rise up the ranks in the Mexican drug cartel and in March, U.S. agents in Chicago named him the new public enemy No. 1.
Oseguera’s cartel is blamed for using “extreme violence” to expand their share of the heroin trade. The Jalisco gang has reportedly attacked Guzman’s Sinaloa cartel and other gangs in Mexican territories over the drug trafficking routes to the United States. The cartel war has become part of a surge in spiked murder rates going back 20 years.
