A 25-year-old mother in Georgia was sentenced to 20 years in prison for allowing her 5 and 6-year-old daughters to be sexually abused by older men.
Morgan Summerlin pleaded guilty in Fulton Superior Court in May and one month later the mother of two was sentenced to 20 years in prison with 10 more on probation. Summerlin is not eligible for parole, according to the prosecutor. She was facing 140 years in prison after it was revealed she was allowing men to rape her two young daughters in exchange for money.
A few minutes before the sentencing, her grandfather privately told a judge that there had been an additional incident involving a 12-year-old family member. Prosecutors determined that it was similar to the two child rape cases, according to WXIA. After speaking with her grandfather, Judge Constance Russell sentenced Summerlin to 20 years and her mother, the young girl’s grandmother, to five years due to her knowing of the abuse and doing nothing to stop it. Summerlin’s defense attorney said the defendant was also sexually exploited and attacked as a child which hinted at a continuing cycle of abuse in the family.
Summerlin’s daughters are now living with one of the family members who attended her sentencing. The children reportedly told other adults that Summerlin took them to visit men who would sexually abuse and molest them before giving them $100.
One man was 78-year-old Richard Office, whom they referred to as “Pop”. The girls said “Pop” would take them into his bedroom while their mother waited in the living room, and he would kiss them and touch them inappropriately. The girls say “Pop” raped one sister while the other rubbed his feet. He reportedly gave the girls $100 each, which Summerlin took from them after they left.
Office was convicted of rape, child molestation, trafficking a person for sexual servitude, enticing a child for indecent purposes and sexual battery. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole plus 146 years to run concurrently.
The mother also brought the girls to Alfredo Trejo’s home where he allegedly molested and raped the young sisters. Trejo was convicted of rape, child molestation, sexual battery, enticing a child for indecent purposes, trafficking a person for sexual servitude and aggravated child molestation. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison and then life on probation.
Summerlin pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree cruelty to children, enticing a child for indecent purposes and trafficking a person for sexual servitude.
Summerlin’s mother was also arrested after she pleaded guilty to cruelty to children in the second degree for her knowledge of the sexual abuse and failure to protect them. The grandmother was sentenced to five years with one commuted to time served and the rest is being served through probation.
