Terminally ill mother of 5 is hanging on to life support as she tries to save her unborn child!
Carrie DeKlyen is having the fight of her life as she lays on life support after battling a stroke during an already terminal sickness.
Back in April, Carrie was diagnosed with cancer and was sent to the University of Michigan to undergo a clinical trial.
However, when she went for her first appointment, she was informed that they could start treatment because she was pregnant.
That was the first time that she found out she was 21 weeks pregnant, and that doing the treatment could hurt the baby.
Doctors notified Carrie that she should terminate the pregnancy so that she could be treated, but she had other plans.
Being diagnosed with glioblastoma, Carrie decided to skip the treatment so that she could deliver her baby. From that decision, doctors estimated that Carrie would only live for five more years.
After undergoing four brain surgeries, Carries condition began to get worse and took a major turn when she suffered the stroke.
Still pregnant and determined to deliver her baby, Carrie became unconscious and was put on life support.
The couple has four other children, Elijah, 18, Isaiah, 16, Nevaeh, 11, Leila, 4, and Jez, 1 — in addition to their unborn daughter, who they’ve named Life.
When asked about her decision to keep the baby, her husband said, “It was Carrie’s decision and I said ‘What do you want to do?’ She said, ‘We’re keeping it,'” Nick said. “She’s going to miss us, but she knows this life is so quick and we’ll see each other again in Heaven. Knowing that gives her hope and, I know it’s crazy, but I support her decision.”
Doctors are hoping that Carrie could make it just seven more weeks to be able to deliver her baby while conscious, but she has yet to regain it.
“I don’t know if she hears me, but I tell her I love her every day. . . .” Nick said. “I look at her face and know this is what she wants and it gives me comfort. But right now, it’s a race against time.”
As of now, there is no more information on her condition, but as soon as we have news, we will keep you updated.
The family has set up a GoFundMe page, as Nick quit his job to be by his wife’s side 24/7. Take a look at some of their family pictures, and keep this family in your prayers!
