The movie and television streaming service, Netflix, has taken over relaxation time for an entire generation of people. If you’re not out having fun with your friends, chances are you are probably on the couch catching up on the latest shows or films. Well it might actually start costing you more to chill.
According to reports from the Australian, they are is testing a price increase on weekends for a selection of new subscribers! They are starting at the prices of $1, $2, and $3 more a month, depending on which level of the streaming service you subscribe to. The prices for each level will then drop back down to to its original $8.99, $11.99, and $14.99 a month on that Monday.
However, the streaming service has denied that the price increases were weekend only, but did acknowledge that they are, indeed, conducting tests and trials.
An unnamed Netflix spokesperson released a statement saying, “We continuously test new things at Netflix and these tests typically vary in length of time.”
“In this case, we are testing slightly different price points to better understand how consumers value Netflix.”
If you want to avoid the rising subscription costs, for now the solution seems simple. It might be wise to not watch Netflix during the weekend. Viewers may want to also keep an eye on any extra overcharges.
