Organizer Of Infamous Failed Fyre Festival Charged For Scamming Customers Again
It seems like Billy McFarland didn’t learn his lesson the first time. The organizer of the infamous Fyre Festival, a failed concert in the Bahamas in 2017, has been charged with duping customers again!
Billy McFarland was rearrested Tuesday and charged for selling up to $100,000 by selling fake tickets to exclusive fashion, music and sporting events through NYC VIP Access, a company he controlled.
Prosecutors said his company advertised tickets to major events including the 2018 Met Gala, Burning Man, Coachella, the Grammy Awards, Super Bowl LII, and even a Cleveland Cavaliers game followed by a team dinner with LeBron James!
He did all of this while on pretrial release for the Fyre Festival fiasco. McFarland was charged with one count of wire fraud and one count of money laundering and faces a maximum of 40 years in prison if convicted.
