Philly DA Says Meek Mill Should Get a New Trial
Looks like Meek Mill is getting closer to freedom. On Monday, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office stated that Meek Mill’s gun and drug-related convictions from 2007 should be overturned and that the rapper should be granted a new trial.
The district attorney’s announcement came during a hearing, but Judge Genece Brinkley is still refusing to release Mill on bail. However, his lawyers say they will reach out to a higher court to get their client released.
Last November, Judge Brinkley sentenced Mill to two to four years in state prison for probation violations on a nearly 10-year-old gun charge.
Since the sentencing, the rapper has received support from many fans and high-profile figures. Mill’s supporters even joined together early this morning at the Criminal Justice Center to protest his imprisonment over the probation violation.
