Running a company is hard work, especially when running that company is your side hustle. Nobody knows the pains of multi-tasking more than R-rapper/producer/clothing designer/record label executive/future president Kanye West who recently decided that being in charge of the day-to-day operations of his G.O.O.D. Music label was definitely not working for him. Unbeknownst to us, Ye named his successor and it’s one you may not have guessed off jump. frequent collaborator and GOOD Music vet Pusha T, received the top job.
In an interview with Billboard, Pusha talked about his new role:
“Actually I was flying home and I had just got into my car at the airport. ‘Ye had called me and he was like, ‘Tell me something, what do you think about becoming the president of G.O.O.D. Music? and I was like, ‘Well, what are the things you are looking for?’ and he was basically just like, to manicure the label, make it profitable and be very-business oriented about it going forward in a manicured type of way”
Pusha T goes on to detail the four-month transition into the position, his working relationship with Kanye and how he plans to find and promote talent at the label. His goal is “capitalizing on everything G.O.O.D. Music brings to the music industry, our following and the culture” to establish G.O.O.D. as a force amongst all others in the entertainment industry. Pusha T says that this transition will help to bring the best out of Kanye, saying, “I think we’ll be getting the best out of him… because he gets to hone in as a producer. I’ll take care of all the logistics, the rallying of the troops and so on and so forth. He don’t gotta be a producer, A&R, rapper and everything.”
Chess moves, y’all.
