#Socialites are you ready for more of the Women of Wakanda?
After the mountainous success from the first comic-book movie led by a primarily Black cast, Marvel’s Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is thinking of a spin-off, that is female-focused.
While at Cannes Film Festival yesterday afternoon (May 10), Coogler didn’t flinch at the question if the women of ‘Black Panther‘ were as important as the men, boldly stating: “I think you could argue they are more important.”
In addition, the 31-year-old continued, speaking on the women of the film (Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, and more): “There’s a whole section of the film where T’Challa is out of the movie and you’re just following the women. That’s one of my favorite parts of the movie when I watched it, and I didn’t expect that. [These actresses] could easily carry their own movie.”
Also, he mentions that in the comic-book version, the women did have their own spin-off, so to speak; so he’d be all in to work on it.
Additionally, when asked about a sequel for Black Panther, the director stated:
[I don’t have anything] specific to reveal, other than to say we absolutely will do that.”
