After Serena Williams’s hopes for a Grand Slam were ripped to shreads by an unseeded player at the US Open on Friday, her fans decided to take their frustration out on Drake.
The rapper, who is rumored to be Serena’s bae (unless you ask his father) was in attendance for the first time this tourney at Serena’s most important showing. Over the past few weeks, fans (and TMZ) searched for any clues that the two may be an item and have really been hoping (us included) that these two are really a thing.
It is impossible to say if Drake’s affections for Ms. Williams are that thing he always sings about missing — wasn’t that remix of the Weeknd’s “Tell Your Friends” about her, after all? — but to her protective supporters, the blush of blossoming love gave way to a harsh, cruel reality the moment the Italian player Roberta Vinci beat Ms. Williams in a stunning upset in the Open semifinals. As fans were left picking up the pieces of their hopes, they decided that someone must be punished. That someone was Drake.

Drake may need to stay out of the public eye for the next month or so, lest he gets got.

Drake did not take all of the blame, though. Kim Kardashian West was quickly identified as an additional scapegoat.

Because this is not the first time Drake has been spotted in the vicinity of a loss at a sporting event, some fans decided to point out a pattern.

Meanwhile, Ms. Vinci, the real person responsible in this case, received a bit of backlash, but mostly messages of support.
