His surgery was performed at the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, India. The surgeons removed items weighing a total of 15 lbs. Doctors concluded Khan suffered from mental health problems and most likely did not inform his family of his strange eating habits:
“The patient was complaining of stomach pain, so we thought of getting an endoscopy done,”
“We were shocked to discover that coins, nails and nut-bolts in his stomach. We come across such a case for the first in our career.
“This man looks mentally unstable as no sane person would do something like this,”

Khan worked as a three-wheel truck driver and would often swallow coins given by customers. Reportedly, he had suffered from stomach pains for three months. His relatives believed he became depressed and started eating foreign objects.
“Whenever he felt the urge to ingest a coin, he ingested it with water,”
The nails found inside of Khan were piercing his stomach and caused bleeding. It resulted in a loss of hemoglobin.
