T.I. has been known by his interchangeable moniker, Tip, for almost a decade now but we’ve always known that Tip is T.I.’s rougher side, his hood companion, if you will. As the family man dove into life on the reality circuit and running legit businesses not associated with trapping, Tip became more of a memory and T.I. looked like he was here to stay. Plus, it was a little too close to former label mate Q-Tip’s name and, you know, finders keepers.
Well, now it seems T.I. is taking a hiatus, and Tip hath returned. It also seems like the new name also means it’s time to take a trip back to the trap with the 34-year-old.
“It’s officially T.I.P. Just Tip. I think it’s about time for the fans,” he recently revealed on 106 KMEL. “For the fans, [Tip] been here since I’m Serious and Trap Muzik. And who actually stuck by me while I venture out into doing my “Blurred Lines,” “Why U Wanna,” “Whatever U Like.” They stuck with me, but now it’s time to dedicate attention to them and I think “Tip” is the move.”
And now that’s he’s officially Tip (again), the Hustle Gang head dropped a new five-song EP on iTunes for fans still looking to pick up where Trap Muzik left off. The project features appearances from Young Thug and Young Dro, as well as production from Jazz Feezy, Sho Nuff, League of Starz, London On The Track, and Mars. The EP’s also his very first independent release, via Empire Distribution, and serves as a lead-up to forthcoming 10-track commercial release, The Dime Trap.
