Lauryn Hill’s Daughter Opens Up About Mother’s Harsh Punishment: “That Was Some Slavery Sh*t”
In a 2-hour Instagram Live uploaded on Monday, Lauryn Hill’s daughter Selah Louise Marley opened about a few personal things in her life.

While speaking to her fans, Selah admitted to having severe daddy issues due to her father, Rohan Marley being absent from her life. The 21-year-old explained: “Honestly guys, I’m just hurting. I can’t even front that I’m not,” she said. “I’ve been hurting for so much of my life and so much of my life has been me avoiding how much I’m really hurting just from the circumstances.” She said it was such a hard thing for her to deal with growing up that she would even google what it was like to have a father.
As she spoke about her mother, which she labeled an “amazing woman,” she did reveal that she used to be very angry with her because of her harsh punishments, which included being spanked as a child. “She was just very angry. So, so, so, so, so, so angry. She was literally not easy to talk to and then half the time we didn’t live with her. I lived with my grandparents half the time… It’s crazy, I’m playing this trauma back in my head as I speak to you.” Selah said the singer would hold them by their arms and beat them like that: “And then the threats, the constant threats… That belt man. That’s that slave sht. That was some slavery sht. All Black parents were on that sh*t.” Seleah went on to share that things eventually got better between them as she got older.
Lauryn Hill has not publicly commented on her daughter’s latest Instagram Live.
