As we previously reported, Taylor Swift filed charges against Denver DJ, David Mueller, after he allegedly groped her behind while reaching his hand under her skirt at a 2013 pre-concert meet-and-greet in Denver.
Today, Swift’s former bodyguard, Greg Dent, took the stand to testify against the DJ. Dent claims he saw Mueller reach under Swift’s skirt with his own eyes, right before a photographer snapped the photo. Take a look at the photo below:
Although Dent claims he was a few steps away and saw the whole thing happen, he says he didn’t intervene because Swift, who usually gives a signal when something is wrong, showed no cues at the time.
Now, we’re learning that the judge has dismissed Mueller’s case against swift. The DJ was seeking up to $3 million from Swift, her mother, and their radio liaison, claiming that they ultimately ruined his career and cost him his job.
The judge reasoned that Taylor did not cost Mueller his job, because she only told her mom and team about the alleged assault. By not directly telling Mueller’s employer, it is impossible to prove that Swift was the reason he lost his job.
The case against Taylor Swift’s mother is still ongoing; Swift’s case against Mueller is expected to conclude with a final verdict next week.
Swift was seated with her legal team at their table in the federal courtroom as her bodyguard, Greg Dent, testified. He further stated that after taking the photo, he expected Mueller to be at the arena bar, and indeed, another guard later saw him there.
The statement Dent gave came on day four of the civil trial. While Mueller denied groping Swift, the pop singer is adamant that he did.
The “Shake It Off” singer is countersuing for a mere $1 for sexual assault and battery; in her case, she is taking this chance to stand up for other women.
On Thursday, Taylor took the witness stand for an hour, describing the experience as “despicable and horrifying and shocking.”
Swift testified, “he stayed attached to my bare ass-cheek as I lurched away from him,” adding, “it was a definite grab. A very long grab.”
Swift attempted to make light of the otherwise serious situation, which even sparked chuckles from the jury, when she said that nobody saw the actual groping occur because they would have had to been underneath her to see it go down, “and we didn’t have anyone positioned there.”
After posing for the picture, Swift says she attempted to get far away from Mueller and his girlfriend, who is also pictured in the photo above. She continued by saying in a monotone voice, “thank you for coming.” Taylor didn’t say anything to Mueller or stop the event because she was stunned, and didn’t want to disappoint the other fans she had waiting to take a picture with her.
Stephanie Simbeck, Taylor Swift’s photographer, also took the stand Thursday, saying that she knew something was not right as she snapped the photo. Once Taylor told Simbeck what happened, the singer looked at the photo and immediately pointed out Mueller as the one responsible.
Though the trial is supposed to last through next Thursday, Friday’s testimonies made it look like things are moving more quickly than expected.
After Dent’s testimony Friday, Mueller’s girlfriend, Shannon Melcher, is left as the only potential witness left who was in the courtroom during the trial.
