Thursday afternoon, ABC News reported three people have been killed, and at least 10 injured after a speeding motor vehicle struck a sidewalk crowded with pedestrians, and caught fire, at 45th and Broadway; the heart of NYC’s Times Square.
The incident occurred when a 26-year-old Bronx man made a wrong turn, driving the wrong way for three blocks; and ended when he crashed at 45th street. The suspect attempted to flee the scene upon impact, but was apprehended after a scuffle, where he allegedly punched an NYPD official.
Authorities reported the driver has previously incurred two prior arrests for drunk driving, including other varying motor vehicle violations.
The crash that ended a mile away from Trump Tower, has left 42nd through 49th streets closed off, and the tower, which houses one of Trump’s homes, on lock down.
A few eyewitnesses report the vehicle “deliberately” struck pedestrians, however NYPD authorities told CBS News they do not believe the incident was a terror attack.
Many witnesses have taken to social media to report their sightings, including the upended, once-enflamed car.
