Now, the late artists who died in 2012 and 1997, respectively – were both nominated for the first time this year for music’s pantheon, which will also welcome Depeche Mode, the Doobie Brothers, Nine Inch Nails, and T. Rex.

For those who don’t know, Rock Hall inductees are chosen by an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians and members of the music industry. An artist is not eligible for induction until 25 years after the release of their first single, album or EP, meaning that the 2020 class had to have released their first eligible music in 1994 or even earlier.

The big annual induction ceremony is set to take place on May 2 at the Public Auditorium in Cleveland, the city where the rock museum is located. It was also said that the Saturday night show will be on HBO, televised live for the first time.
