The 90’s have been making a solid comeback as of late and I think I know why: nostalgia is the king of warm fuzzies and coupled with advances in entertainment, it’s no wonder that people are clamoring for the throwbacks.
With Hollywood finally taking note with rebooted versions of classics like Ghostbusters, X-Files, and Full House it seems the 90s will reign supreme yet again. And now, the pull of nostalgic fields may result in the return of one of our most beloved shows as reports are surfacing that a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot is on the way.
TV Line reports that Will Smith’s production company, Overbrook Entertainment, is in the very early stages of developing a new show that “puts a new spin on the fish-out-of-water tale while maintaining the spirit of the original series.” The pitch is still in the works, and Smith is expected to start shopping the show in next few weeks along with his totally still together wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith.
While part of me is super excited to see what may or may not have happened (did Will ever join the family out East? Did Carlton join a singing troop at Princeton? Where is Jazz!?!) another part is extremely weary of anything that would ruin the joy that comes with not quite knowing how the Banks’ turned out. Sometimes nostalgia is better left with re-runs because Netflix loves us.
