11 People Killed, Six Injured In Mass Shooting At Virginia Beach
Eleven people are reported to have been killed with at least six injured after a shooter opened fire at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center on Friday afternoon.
Virginia Beach police Chief Jim Cervera revealed that the shooter walked into the building after 4 p.m. and “immediately began to indiscriminately fire upon all the victims.”
“This is the most devastating day in the history of Virginia Beach,” said Mayor Bobby Dyer. “The people involved are our friends, coworkers, neighbor, colleagues.”
The mass shooter has been identified as a public utilities worker. The police reportedly shot him and he later died.
Among the injured is an officer who was shot by the suspect, fortunately, he is expected to survive.
CNN reports that an additional six people have been transferred to local hospitals for treatment. The death toll could possibly rise.
A motive for the incident is currently unknown, and the suspect’s identity has not yet been released.
The FBI is currently responding to the situation.
