20 Inch Hairball Cut Out Of Teen’s Stomach
Surgeons were left with a hairy situation after a 4.4lbs human hairball was discovered in a teenager’s stomach.
An unidentified 19-year-old girl was taken to the hospital in the city of Ulan-Ude in southern Russia after complaining of severe stomach pains.
According to the Mirror, the woman was vomiting after she ate and felt weak for the past few days. After doctor’s examined her they were shocked to discover 4.4lbs of hair stuck in the teen’s stomach.
Bator Dondokov, who is the the head of the surgical team at the Ulan-Ude hospital, said that “things like that can begin with an innocent habit of chewing on your hair.”
The rare condition is sometimes referred to as Rapunzel syndrome and is often associated with the hair-pulling dysfunction called trichotillomania.
The girl’s mother said that her daughter is recovering well following her ordeal. The disorder is also linked to those who eat other people’s hair.
