50 Cent is off the hook! The rapper took a big win after a judge threw out a lawsuit where two writers accused him of ripping off their work to create his hit show, “Power.”
According to TMZ, the accusers claimed his show was based on a play they wrote called “Dangerous,” which they said was very similar to “Power”. They claimed the plot consisted of a drug dealer who engaged in violence, launders money and attempts to get out of the game.
Now, although “Power” is a major hit, this storyline has been a common theme in many shows and films. The judge noted just that saying the elements they’re referring to aren’t specific to solely their play.
“One need only look to such shows and movies as The Wire, Empire, Breaking Bad, Narcos, Weeds, Carlito’s Way, American Gangster, New Jack City, Scarface and Paid in Full.”
50 is in the clear and now it looks like the two writers have to go back to the drawing board. The rapper’s hit show “Power” is currently preparing for their 5th season. #PressPlay Above to see what you should expect.
