A 9-year-old girl’s lifeless body was found hanging in her room after an argument with her mother Saturday.
The body was discovered before noon Saturday inside of her Bronx River Houses apartment on East 174th Street. She was hanging from her bed with a belt wrapped around her neck, police said. A police report states the girl and her mother were arguing about cell phone use earlier in the day. Shortly after, the mother found her daughter’s body and dialed 911.
The girl’s brother tried performing CPR until emergency personnel arrived but it was unfortunately too late. She was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital where she was pronounced dead. As far as potential criminal activity, police believe there is none involved.
In 2017, a girl just one year older than the Bronx child hanged herself after a video was posted to social media of her and a bully fighting. Ashawnty Davis hanged herself in a closet and died after spending two weeks on life support. The severe bullying from the video got so bad that the child took her own life two weeks after it was posted.
