9-Year-Old Uses Allowance To Pay Off Lunch Debt For Third Grade Class

9-year-old Ryan Kirkpatrick recently did something very kind for his fellow students at West Park Elementary School in California; he used his hardworking allowance money to pay off school lunch debts for his entire third-grade class.

Ryan’s mom Kylie Kirkpatrick shared that her son learned some kids at his school were unable to afford lunch and have accumulated debt, so Ryan wanted to make it his duty to change that. According to ABC7, the price of school lunches range from 30 cents to $3.25 each. However, Kirkpatrick said Ryan asked her to find out how much his peers at his school owed for lunches and his mom discovered it was about $74.50.

“What do you want to do?” Kirkpatrick asked her son, according to ABC News7. “He said, ‘I guess I can pay for it.’ I said, ‘are you sure?’ And he said, ‘yes.’ ”

Now, Ryan would usually use his allowance money to buy things like autographed baseballs or sports gear, but this time he decided it would be best to help those in need.

“I want them just to realize people actually think about them instead of just telling them what they did because you’re just bragging about stuff,” Ryan said. “I want them to feel happy that someone cares about them.”
