Several Philadelphia police officers were shot Wednesday after responding to calls about an active shooter in a North Philly neighborhood.

NBC News reports the police officers responded to reports of a shooting incident in the Nicetown section of North Philly. The male shooter injured several officers during the shootout and they were transported to Temple University Hospital. The university posted on their official Twitter account that the Health Sciences Center campus is under lockdown while police are handling the situation.

“Lockdown is in effect for the Health Sciences Center Campus. Seek shelter. Secure doors. Be silent. Be still. Police are responding.”

One witness stated that she heard about 100 gunshots before police arrived at the scene and said it felt “like a war.”
