American Airlines Pilot Arrested For Suspicion Of Being Drunk On Plane
Imagine your flight being canceled because your pilot is unable to properly work a plane because he’s too drunk… well, that’s exactly what happened to a bunch of passengers on Thursday.
A 62-year-old American Airlines pilot was arrested on suspicion of being drunk, forcing the flight from England to Philadelphia to be canceled, according to the New York Post. The pilot was on Flight AA735 at Manchester Airport when police arrested him on suspicion of “performing an aviation function when over the prescribed limit of alcohol,” the UK’s Independent reported.
Thanks to the pilot, the flight, which had been scheduled to depart at 11 a.m. local time, was canceled and the passengers were rebooked onto another flight.
The pilot, whose name was not released, has been granted bail pending further investigation, Greater Manchester police said.
“American Airlines is aware of an incident involving a member of its crew at Manchester Airport yesterday morning. The employee was detained and the flight, AA735 to Philadelphia, was cancelled. Safety is our highest priority and we apologize to our customers for the disruption to their travel plans; all were rebooked on alternative flights,” the airline told The Post in an email. “We are fully cooperating with local law enforcement and further questions should be referred to them.”
