An American college student from New York City was arrested in Russia for possessing 19 grams of medical marijuana.
NBC News reports Audrey Eliza Lorber was searched by authorities at Pulkovo Airport in St.Petersburg and they discovered she possessed about two-thirds of an ounce of marijuana. A court document stated that Lorber told officials that her contraband was used for medical purposes.
“[The] patent for marijuana use in a medical program issued in the United States that the accused carried with her does not apply to the territory of the Russian Federation,”

The U.S State Department said in a statement that they are aware of Lorber’s attest .
“We take seriously our responsibility to assist U.S. citizens abroad. Due to privacy considerations, we have no further comment “

Staten Island Rep. Max Rose, D-NY said he was working on a plan to help bring Lorber home.
“I’m working to help get Audrey home as soon as possible because no American citizen should be held in jail for a medical condition,”
Lorder is a student at Pace University and plans to be a film maker.
