Aretha Franklin was overwhelmed with emotion as the city of Detroit renamed a popular city street in her honor.
This past Thursday evening outside the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts in Detroit, the section of Madison between Witherell and Brush Street now has a new name. “Aretha Franklin Way” was unveiled by the legendary singer.
As she removed the cover from the street sign during the ceremony in her honor, she was overcome with emotion. Franklin was seen tearing up. Franklin thanked the Detroit City Council for the honor while telling him, “Every time I come down here, I want to see it,” she said. “I am gonna dance down it. Thank you.”
