A Texas baby who was born without his skin can finally breath on his own and be held by his family after a transplant.

Baby Jabari, received a successful skin transplant over the summer after spending 10 months in the hospital.

According to ABC 13, the skin was grown inside a lab in Boston, one that specializes in burn victims. Jabari’s condition is very rare and only one other child was born in the U.S with it, but, sadly didn’t survive.

“That was the first transplant ever that’s been done in his situation and on a baby his age,” Jabari’s mom, Priscilla Maldonado, said

“It was heartwarming because he was crying when he was laying down so as soon as I picked him up and had the skin-to-skin contact and put him on my chest he just stopped crying,” she added.

At birth, doctors didn’t think he would survive, but, now Jabari weighs 18 pounds! He will still need some corrections to several areas that have fused.

His mom said that she saw no signs of anything wrong during her pregnancy, and they only discovered his condition after Ja’bari was born.
