A babysitter in Maine was arrested this week after she was found drunk and without pants on a street while she was supposed to be caring for someone’s children.
25-year-old Lauren Gelinas was arrested Tuesday on charges of endangering the welfare of a child after she got drunk and left two young children unattended while she walked pantsless throughout the street. Gelinas was hired to babysit the two kids but police in Bangor got a call about a disturbance on Ohio Street, WGME reports.
Responding officers arrived and found Gelinas outside without pants, socks or shoes, according to the outlet. She told police that she was hired to take care of two children at a nearby home. Upon police arrival to the home, they found two children under the age of five in unsafe and unsanitary conditions, NY Post reports.
Officials from the state’s Department of Health and Human Services were also called to the scene, WGME reports. An emotional Gelinas pleaded not guilty to the charges during a court appearance on Wednesday, WABI reports.
Gelinas told one of the arresting officers that she drank vodka before walking out of the home without her clothes. One of the two children – ages 2 and 4 – was later found lying in vomit and crying hysterically. The other child was found disheveled and asleep upstairs, NY Post reports. Police say one child also complained of being kicked by Gelinas.
The bad babysitter was ordered held on $500 bail and was expected to return to court in December, WABI reports.
