Bodies Of Missing NY Couple Found In Dominican Republic
Police in the Dominican Republican report that they have found missing New York couple Orlando Moore and Portia Ravenelle. They were recovered following a car crash on the Las Américas freeway.
Rep Col. Felix Duran Mejia said Portia Ravenelle was positively identified by fingerprints after she died at a hospital in Santo Domingo Este.
The body presumed to be Moore was reported to have been “eaten by fishes.” Orlando Moore, 43, and Portia Ravenelle, 32, from Mount Vernon, were scheduled to fly back to the US on March 27, however, they never returned.
CBS News reports that the Dominican authorities believe the couple got into a car accident on their way to the airport from their vacation resort. Fishermen said that they recovered a car in the water near the freeway. The woman was recovered from the crash and taken to the hospital in serious condition. Sadly, She passed away on April 4.
The reports state that the decomposed body believed to be Moore’s washed ashore on March 31, 19 miles from the initial crash. The doctor who examined Moore’s body said he couldn’t tell if there were physical inuries, but, added that “He’s been eaten by fishes.”
An autopsy is due to be released later today as police work on recovering the car from the bottom of the sea.
“We have information on a vehicle at the bottom of the sea near the location where they were last seen. We can’t confirm the characteristics of the vehicle because of rough seas and our divers are having a hard time reaching the depths,” Dominican Republic national police rep Col. Frank Félix Durán Mejia said to CBS.
