Bodycam Video Shows Shooting That Critically Injured Homeless Man
Footage obtained by WSBTV captured the moment a shooting involving a deputy left a homeless man in critical condition.
According to police, Nicholas Bolton, 34, was asleep in his car when they went towards him and requested that he get out and show his license. However, according to the report, Bolton refused and sped off.
As the police chased him, Bolton’s car began to spin. Moments after, Deputy John Collins fired a shot through his windshield
Officials claim that Collins saw “what he believed to be Bolton actively trying to drive his vehicle in the direction of a deputy,” but his family disagree.
“Clearly Nicholas was boxed in with no place to go. Rather than take him into custody, shooting to kill was apparently easier, with the limp excuse that he was trying to hurt them,” his lawyer Tanya Miller said. “The police video speaks for itself.”
The officer involved is currently on leave, but, the sheriff’s department believes the incident was justified.
