A Bronx boy with Down syndrome fell out the window of a nine-story building early Saturday morning.

According to the New York Daily News, the 7-year-old boy fell from his ninth-floor apartment window on Harrod Ave. and 174th Street at Bronx River Houses. Police say he landed on a patch of grass as his mother watched in horror and witness Jimmy Graham said the maintenance workers had to cut down the fence to rescue the child.

“He was screaming and hollering. It was like somebody was getting killed. He fell onto that grassy area. Workers had to cut the fence to get to him.”

The boy and his parents were rushed to Jacobi Hospital where he underwent surgery for a broken leg and treatment for bleeding in his brain.
